Description

Author(s): M.F. Heimann, G.L. Worf, R. F. Patton

Dothistroma needle blight causes needle spots, discoloration, and substantial needle loss in heavily infected areas. This disease, which limits the usefulness of susceptible pines for windbreaks, Christmas trees, ornamental purposes, and even timber production in some parts of the world, has been observed on individual trees throughout Wisconsin.

Austrian pines are particularly susceptible, though the disease also attacks Mugo, Ponderosa, and perhaps other species of pine. Find out how to identify, prevent, and control this blight in your home garden.
