Description

Understanding Local Sign Codes (1-20-2016): Many Wisconsin communities have sign codes. The regulation of signs, however, raises some important legal issues, especially the extent a regulation may infringe on freedom of speech protected by the First Amendment as addressed in the recent U.S. Supreme Court case Reed v. Town of Gilbert. This program reviews the legal framework for sign regulation in Wisconsin and provides practical planning guidance for communities seeking to regulate signs.
